Loose Lead
The freshmen track in gingko mush
bad breeding, puppy mill graduates
still pissing on pads and bushes
and the locked-up pawns blocking
wrong-turn roadies on campus for
symposiums or secret clandestine
visits to the RA, who fucks quiet
and claims the man is her cousin
visiting from New Jersey– and all
her freshmen floor girls believe
in the gossip gospel she spills
sitting round the hair dye stained
threads of her carpet, pungent
gingko fruit crushed in the treads
of their boots. They chew on her
fingers and the ends of her new
black hair and she sighs but lets
it continue, after all they're just
puppies, brand new and squalling.
